Embedded Librarian
What is it?
A librarian added to your online course as a TA or Co-Instructor.
Why do it?
Many learners take online classes because it is inconvenient for them to come to campus. Online learners may be busy with family or a full-time job, or live a far distance from campus. Any of these things may prevent them from visiting the physical library and learning about our resources. To support these learners, the library has collected a significant amount of resources that can be accessed online from off-campus. Distance learners also have special services available to them such as delivery of library materials to their off-campus class location or mailing of library materials to students in fully online classes.
What can the embedded librarian do for your class?
- help learners use the library's online resources such as journal databases and e-books
- help learners find appropriate web resources
- assist learners with finding and requesting library materials that are not online
- help with citation formats
- provide web based tutorials about the online library resources
- help learners access materials the library does not own
- collaborate with instructor to develop an assignment based library instruction session that supports the General Education Intended Student Learning Outcomes
- facilitate a discussion board in your Blackboard classroom (typically for 5-7 days) to answer learner questions regarding finding and using library resources
